Leuchtfeuer - Experimental Trio
Leuchtfeuer, also known as Nicolai / Ruffing / Tataroglou Trio, is an experimental trio made up of Yannis Tataroglou [voice], Niklas Ruffing [percussion], and Christoph Nicolai [electronics] based in Basel, Switzerland.
The trio operates at the fringes of experimental music, blending extended vocal techniques, noise and signal-based improvisation. Their name Leuchtfeuer, the German word for lighthouse, captures the essence of their practice: sonic transmissions that cut through abstract space, distant and searching, yet purposeful. This metaphor of the lighthouse, guiding through obscurity, plays heavily into the aesthetic world they construct in their live performances and recordings.

Our design aimed to echo this unique blend. The poster and two web artwork pieces were shaped around the emotional texture of the music: abstract, desolate, and slightly surreal, yet with glimmers of warmth and familiarity.
Central to the atmosphere is a minimal but suggestive approach and imagery that hint at home, isolation, and signals cutting through empty space, concepts that align closely with the musical narrative of their pieces.

These pieces were used both for print and digital promotion, visually anchoring the tour and extending the group’s atmospheric presence beyond the stage.
