"Cities" - Historical Documentary Series by Vaggelis Eythymiou
"Πόλεις" (Cities) is a 12-episode historical documentary series produced by Landart Productions for Greece's national broadcaster, ERT.
The series explores the rich, layered histories of twelve Greek cities, deliberately moving away from major metropolitan hubs like Athens and Thessaloniki to spotlight the distinct heritage of regional urban centers, including Thebes, Halkis, Tripolis, Ierapetra, and Mytilene.
WoodGear partnered with Landart Productions to deliver the complete broadcast design package and specialized motion graphics for on-location production.
Our studio developed the opening and closing title sequences, on-screen lower thirds, and custom motion design elements used throughout the series. A core component of the project involved creating specialized, large-scale moving graphics designed for real-time projection onto building facades during nighttime filming on location.
These projections incorporated historical maps, archival documents, and period artwork. By inverting the source material to high-contrast negatives and amplifying the underlying line art with vibrant, colorful glows against deep, dark backgrounds, the graphics transformed the architectural faces of each city into dynamic, emissive storytelling surfaces that bridged the past with the present.
